have a 1993 mariner 50hp with a single ram tilt electric trim motor seems fine in with up and down on switch found the manual release valve was not not closed so i have closed it and now got alittle movement but not much. not sure where to go from here ? could be seals be out on ram ? or maybe bad pump ? can either of these be rebuilt ?

motor spins properly?

filled with fluid?

Big nylon manual release on bottom right side of pump is screwed in all the way? **

and it still doesn't lift?

then you need a rebuilt or replacement pump/manifold. No point doing that and not rebuilding the ram while you're in there.
The most common problem is a broken off MRV tip. The tip has to be removed without creating any debris or scratching the aluminum housing. The only reliable way I have found is to do a complete breakdown, extract, flush, polish, and rebuild. very touchy work but do-able with a dremel and patience. It uses SAE seals which you can get at most hydraulics repair shops.

** caution, do not torque the manual release valve. Finger tight is more than adequate as long as the valve stem is fully inserted.
** avoid tightening or loosening the MRV while the system is pressurized. This can damage the nylon threads. block engine and bump switch to release pressure whenever possible.
** do not run the trim motor with the MRV loose. This may damage the seals.
