It has been suggested that every owner make a list of "house rules" for their boat.

Any suggestions for common "house rules"?

Re: Boating Etiquette 101

Bikinis are optional?

Not in my crowd. We're all a bit... older.

- Listen to my safety instructions and follow them to the letter.

- When I ask you to be at the dock at 10:00, be there by 10:00.

- Don't try to 'help' me dock unless I've specifically asked you to do something. Linda and I have a system for docking and anchoring.
Sit down, shut up and keep your appendages inside the boat. Nothing worse than having a friend fend me off a piling that HE thinks I'm gonna hit. Just screws me up.

- Like I told you before we left the dock... ask me to demonstrate the head before you use it. Sorry, no false modesty allowed on my boat. If you clog it up, you get to unclog it.

- Don't show up empty-handed. Bring snacks and drinks. Offer to buy gas (I won't let you, but I appreciate the gesture). Offer to help wash down the boat.

- If you're inclined, ask me questions about what I'm doing and why. I'm proud of what I've learned and love to show it off!

No potato chips for small kids, children MUST wear their life jackets. no spot stealing in regard to where the last cast was that caught a fish, unless the captain wants to.

On my boat I don't allow shoes. Too many times I have had to scrub black streaks from someone's running shoes.

2-Listen to Mom
3-In any conflict between rule 1 and rule 2, listen to Mom
3a-After resolving the conflict by rule 3 the boat driver must compensate without complaint and in perfect safety

Re: Boating Etiquette 101

keep in mind this is always changing

1. Its my boat so I am always right
2. Unless the Admiral is on board in which case its her boat
3. This is a Beer boat and if you don't like it find another boat to hitch a ride on
4. I love kids but don't bring any red or blue gatorade
5. No sunflower seeds in front of the Captain while at speed
6. Life vests are optional once you have proved you can swim to the Captain, youngsters must obey life jacket laws
7. I have a crew and they are a finely tuned machine, get in sit down and let the crew do their job.

I could go on and on, bikini's are optional but for god sakes please police yourself we don't want anyone getting hurt...

4-this is not a booze boat if you plan a day of drinking stay on shore ( a cold beer after a long day is cool but a beer)
5-an offering of fuel, help, etc is aways a nice but may not always be excepted.

I don't usually burden guests with a set of rules , as I'm pretty flexible . . . the guests that have come with us generally understand to do what the captain says.

No guns or drugs onboard. And no alcohol on board when we are in Canada.

OK, my guns are allowed, but you can't touch them.

No trips back to the dock unless someone is sick, or someone is buying me dinner.

Don't try to sit on or climb over the bow rail.

If you don't know how to net a fish, let me do it myself.

Sand in the boat is ok, sand in my coffee is not.

My golden rule:

"Dress appropriately because if it's dark and starry, this rig isn't going any faster than idle. Sit back and enjoy nature as long as you can."

And when getting in or out, walking on the Furniture is NOT acceptable.
You may walk on your furniture at home but don't do it here.
If you can't figure out where to step, ASK!
No jumping ON or OFF unless it is into the water.

Bring soft soled shoes. Nothing with a heel. Barefoot is even better!

I don't have a problem with smoking on the boat however if you throw your butts over the side you will be retrieving them and most likely not invited back.

Second rule .. dont come aboard if you think your the Captain.
