1986 25 hp johnson

1986 25 hp johnson just removed lower unit put back together and now stuck in foward wont go into neutral or reverse
then went to start it put it into forward now wont come out wont to into nutral or reverse.please help

It did shift to forward by pushing the shift rod downwards, didn't it? Cannot recall right now which way the 2 units I have worked with for my outboard worked. But it sounds like you forgot to reconnect the shift rod, it is able to push the shift down but not pull it up. Maybe you forgot the little plastic keeper from the upper shift rod?

yeh i am going to pull the lower unit back down and try again and reset it all and see what happens thanks for comment anyway
