Getting ready to pull engine up and forward about 12 inches. Planing on using a 1/2 ton cable hoist attached to a d-ring and chains to the engine. Everything is disconected and or removed, including manafolds and risers.
My question is what and where is the proper and safe way to hook up chains. I noticed a lifting ring on starboard side front of engine, one on port side rear of engine, and one on t-stat housing. Engine is 2005 volvo 5.0 gl (red).

Use the lifting rings any time an engine has them. Makes life easier. If you have a load balancer then it becomes even easier. The old standby is head bolts or exhaust manifold bolts

DO NOT Use the one on the thermostat housing.

It's only used for lifting the center of the engine for alignment purposes, not for lifting the engine,

There are all kinds of warnings in the OEM service manual and service bulletins.

Got it. Thanks for the warning.
I guess one chain from each corner to a d-ring is good?

Factory lift points will work a lot better than a carb plate

Personally, I would never trust a carb plate with the newer intakes and manifolds, they were boarderline to me on the old style manifolds.

That's what I have, altho mine came from Napa and not Harbor freight as it wasn't worth the drive with the little cost difference when I needed it
