GPS not working anymore!!! ?????

Hi I have a Humminbird Matrix 17. Two months ago I got a GPS for it off ebay new in the box never opned! Well I got two fishing trips out of it!!!! It no longer works. It says it's not connected. I tired playing with it wetting the pug, NOTHING!!!

Anyone else have this happen? I just spent $80 on this thing!!! rrrrrhhhhh!!!:mad:

The GPS doesn't work? Or the Sonar Doesn't work?
Wetting the PUG? :confused:

Describe the problem in more detail.
What GPS?

He said, 'wetting the pug'. I think it made him mad enough to throw the dog overboard. That isn't very nice, brownhunter...

I have replaced three lowrance 3000 GPS modules. They work for awhile then I get the 'Module not responding' message. Spent a lot of time in communication with Lowrance attempting to troubleshoot the problem only to find out that there were manufacturing (maybe engineering) flaws with the 3000 unit. The module is now out of production. I asked for some kind of rebate and they basically told me to 'go pound sand' and purchase the 4000 unit which is the replacement. Perhaps you have a faulty module.

All joking aside to the OP. Is the GPS hooked up to the finder over an NMEA 2000 interface? If so, were you required to put terminations on the line or did they allow you to just plug it in?

lolol!! I mean i got the connector a lil bit wet because maybe it wasn't making a good connection with teh finder where it plugs in. It says on the screen it's not connected when it is!!! Oh man don't tell me they go bad for no reason! :( I am not going to keep forking out $ TO REPLACE THEM! I'd rather get a hand held GPS! Anyone know the # to Humminbird?

Are you sure the NMEA interface is turned ON? See Page 47.

What model GPS do you have?

The "Not Connected" Message means no signal is being received.
The Matrix 17's NMEA Receiver, and the GPS's NMEA Transmitter, both need to be ON.

Are you sure, you're sure? :rolleyes:

P.S. There is no need to spit on the PLUG! :D

Thanks UW! It was turned off, I turned it ON, and still no GPS working. It started working the 1st time i ever plugged it in, I didn't have to do anything to anything. Now I get nothing from it. What next???

What was the "It" that was turned off? Matrix? GPS?
Are they Both ON? Are you Sure?

Did the GPS acquire satellite lock?

And AGAIN!, What model GPS are we talking about and how is it connected? :confused:

From the manual: Use the LEFT or RIGHT 4-WAY Cursor Control keys to change the NMEA
Output to On or Off (On, Off, Default = Off).

It was off. So I turned it back on. Still nothing on GPS. its the AS GR16 model. part# 406340-1

The screen does not read it. it says its not connected no matter what I do. I restore defaults then put it back on advanced mode then turn the NMEA back on. Nothing. :-(

If you are using a NMEA 0183 interface, the settings for baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits, and handshaking must match.

Are you using the "Y" Cable between the AS-16 and the Matrix-17?

The two connectors on the "Y" cable casually look the same, but are different.
One is an input, and the other is an output.
Only 4 of the 6 pins are installed in each connector.
But it is a different 4 on each end.
See if it works without the "Y" cable.

Connect the AS-16 directly to the Matrix-17.

After all this, I just know you will come back and state you don't even own a "Y" cable.

I do have the Y cable. But I am not using it and never did. lol. Should I try it?

That is why I gave up Fortune telling!

At this point you have nothing to lose by trying.
I don't think it will make any difference.

There I go predicting the future again.

I do not see anything on the screen about those things. I tried the Y cable, nothing. I will call Humminbird. Thanks all and UW for trying to help!!!!
