Are you sure it's a Bravo I ? The 0B756888 serial number you posted is for an Alpha I with a 1.50 gear ratio.

Only after 2005, which is what your Bravo picture is. Before 2005, they dn't have that angled rear cover on the upper unit.

For example, here's a 1997 Bravo 3.

On more than one occasion, I have had to walk a bit closer to tell a Bravo One from and Alpha One Gen 2. For example, at the top of this page, there is a "toolbar" with links to iboats' store. Can you tell instantly, that the picture for "Mercruiser Boat Motor" is a Bravo? ;)

Just a side note. There is the raw water pump mounted to the motor, with hose going through the gimble housing as well...

Hey Don.
I did double check the #. It is correct. Hard to see here because I had to compress pic to fit(still working out how to post pics...lol) Still not sure of the ratio? I'm debating on removing the sticker and paint to see if is near the serial #.. Looking to repaint anyways.

Don, Thanks for the link. Yeah you really can't see it after I resized it..There is a small correction. With a little scotchBrite action it is 0B756883 The Mercury Parts catalog is still calling it an Alpha?? The # on the gimble housing is 0B766755... By looking at the bell housing and inner transom plate.. it looks like a Bravo to me???

Re: Bravo one gear ratio??

0B766755 is also a Alpha. and so is the 0B756883 drive number.

Have no idea how Merc screwed up all the numbers, but they sure did. I can look at the drive and the transom shield and tell that it's a Bravo, even without the decals.
88 was also the very first year for the Bravo drives. That might have something to do with the numbers.

Look on the ujoint shaft and see if you have a letter stamped on it anyplace.

It didn't come from Mercruiser in 1988 with a 496. the 496 wasn't introduced until 2001.

And while the numbers are a mystery, that's a Bravo drive. With a nosecone added.
