OMC Cobra shift cable question

I'm replacing my lower shift cable. Is it necessary to lubricate the wire core inside the jacket with grease? Some literature says to grease it, some says not. What are your opinions? I'm guessing the white lithium grease is a replacement for OMC triple guard?

Not sure where you read it, but the lower shift cables do not get any grease at all.

triple guard is more like the tube (squeezable tube not the grease gun tube) of marine grease you can get at wal-mart, kinda a blueish color but thinner than the grease gun tube of marine grease, if that makes sense.

No don't grease them.
Your just adding something that's gonna gunk up and sieze quicker.
The only time i'd lube it is if you have taken apart an old one cause it was corroded.
Then white lithium. But that's only a stopgap measure. Your gonna need to replace it again soon!
