List your motor and oil

Just was wondering and want to gather some data. No oil arguments just list what you have and what you put in and if you use a marine or auto filter.

Ok, what are we planning to accomplish with this thread? Just an FYI thread? If someone posts oil/filter that someone else is totally against, so much for no arguments......

Not sure why you aren't using the weight specified by Mercruiser since you do have a brand new engine under warranty.

5.0 MPI, I use Mercury 20W-40 oil and a mercury filter.

1997 Volvo Penta 5.7GL (with Hi-Tek Headers).
Using Penrite '10 Tenths Racing 20', which is a Shear Free 20w60 oil & Ryco Z24 'long' filter.
I find the Shear Free a great mechanical advantage, given boats endure such consistant high loads.

Mercruiser 7.4LX MPI 10w-40 oil, whatever name brand that I can get at WalMart, etc. Quicksilver filters, but I have used Fram on occasion.

OMC Cobra 2.3. Castrol oil and a Wix filter. Wix makes filters for Caterpillar. If its good enough for a 2 million dollar bulldozer, its good enough for my boat.

Mercruiser 4.3 I/O. Regular quicksilver 25w40 from walmart and wix filter.

Volvo Penta 4.3 H.O. Amsoil 5W-30 Synthetic Marine Oil, Amsoil filter, and Amsoil 75-80W - 90 Synthetic Lower Unit Oil.
Oh, and Amsoil synthetic tranny fluid in the tilt/trim unit.

Caterpillar outsources a few less important filters here and there, and Wix may be one of the suppliers along with Fleetgard, Fram and others.
But the majority of Cat filters are made by Caterpillar in their own filter plant, and Cat is also in a joint venture with a company called AFSI (Advanced Filtration Systems International), who make Donaldson filters for Caterpillar and others.

Wix are good filters though.
