I installed my outdrive yesterday.

When greasing the u-joints it seemed very difficult to get grease into them.
Didn't see much coming out of the sides.

I assumed all was well and installed the outdrive.

Re: Greasing U-Joints

Hey, I greased the u-joints on my outdrives yesterday too . . .

As I recall, it took 6-8 pumps of the gun to get the popping sound of the seals, etc. I usually pump enough just to start getting visual evidence around the seals . . .

The gimbal bearing is even worse . . . 10-15 pumps easily.

Re: Greasing U-Joints

i've noted the same fbt. it is sometimes hard to get the grease into them ujoints. what i've found after trying again is that when they've accepted the grease, the ujoints become stiff. the new grease slows them down. meaning, the drive shaft don't flop around when working with it. when greased, the drive shaft slowly moves with gravity, not just bang. it flopped full down.
don't know if that makes any sense, but is the best i can describe how i think i'm done greaseing my ujoints and when i think they've accepted the grease.

Well........I didn't feel comfortabe the more I thought about the u-joints.

Just pulled the drive re-greased the joints and re-installed the drive w/ a new gasket set.

THe whole job took less than and hour + 1 beer...........now I feel better.............:)

It was the right thing to do........
