I have a 2002 Yamaha C40TLRA outboard. I have installed a water pump kit and now have trouble finding the neutral position on the lower unit. I have slowly turned the splined shaft on the LU while turning the prop to try to find the point where the prop will turn freely (neutral) but not the shift shaft. What am I doing wrong? As I said the shifter is splined and rotates from right to left (right is forward, neutral is center, reverse if left). Please help.
