Redline is 5250
Mechanic 1 says 5300 is good
Mechanic 2 says no more than 5000
Who's right?
It's the difference between 19 and 21
Inches of pitch.

Re: Mercury classic 05 115

Motors typically have an rpm "range" it's highly unlikely to be only 300 rpm.
I don't have any specs on it but Someone should be along with that info.My guess would be 5000 to 5500.
The idea is to prop within the rpm range Usually closer to the high end.
5,000 seems a little low if you start adding weight it could drop out of the rpm range making it struggle.

Thanks , sounds like I should stay with

The 19 pitch and just go easy.

Your Mercury 115 motor's rpm range is 4750-5250 rpm.

Mech no 2 is more correct, since the motor develops 115 hp at 5000 rpm. There is no point in going past that, since power would be on the decline.

Hmm- I tried the Trophy Plus 21 and got 42 at 5000, but I was afraid it was too much. Love the 4 blades- but it gets real pricey above 19 pitch. Mostly cruzin at 30 and 4000. Would the clutch handle that big wheel?

The clutch should handle any prop just be sure the idle is as low as recommended and shift crisply,
neither jamming nor dragging it into gear.
A 4 blade should be good for cruising.Usually suggested to drop an inch in pitch when going to a 4 blade.
