Can someone please post measurements of a 1987 18? Starcraft Mariner? (MR180)

I would like to know the width of the floor, and the side heights, any additional info would be great too, like depth of the splashwell, etc

I may go pick this up as a restore project this weekend, trying to gather as much info as I can.

The boat in question is 1987, here?s the 1986 catalog, im sure it?s probably the same or very close:

Would measurements off my 1972 help you at all? Slightly different I'm sure, but similar

Yeah that would be great thanks. Looking at the brochures they both have a 79" beam but somehow the weight difference is quite a bit apparently.

1972 = 655 lbs
1987 =850 lbs

Do you have any pics floating around this Site?

Re: Need measurements 1987 18? Starcraft Mariner (MR180)

I do on my thread here: http://forums.iboats.com/starcraft-boats/new-cc-take-2-a-592175.html but I can take more if there is something in particular you would like to see. Below are some measurements off mine, I can take additional ones if you want.
Splashwell length= 22"
Splashwell depth @ motor = 7"
deck width from splashwell to forward of console = 63"
forward deck/ seats= 36" long at longest points (sides cause its curved)
Side depth @ console= 24"
Side depth @ splash well = 22"

I looked at a '87 or '89 MR180 about 3 weeks ago when I was looking for a Mariner, and it struck me that it had a ton of interior pannels and doors. Thats probably where much of the extra weight comes in. I could not see any of the hull material fromt the inside, it was all carpeted, had side pannels going up about 8" from the deck, and the transom was walled off with only an access hatch. There also was a built in fuel tank forward of the console. I was very surprised at the amount of interior stuff in it compared with all of the 60's and 70's SC's I've seen. There was even a side pannel to lock the rear half of fishing poles in! I would not be surprised at all if that is where all of the weight comes in, the hulls seem to be vertually identical otherwise. Oh, and the helmsman's seat had built in fishing lure drawers. The one I looked at would have needed an entire new interior, but if that was stripped out the hulls would be impossible to tell apart. With all of the interior stuff, pulling the transom out should you need to do so would be a real PITA unless you pulled the deck and pannels out. Just my observations, but I much preferred the 70's boat to it!

There is also a really good chance it has poured in foam vs. sheet foam, see item E below. From 1986 Literature.

Thanks 1973Chieftain that really clears things up and solves the weight mystery. I’ll post some pictures if I get one.
Does anyone know if the 18’ holiday/starchief hulls generally have taller sides than 22” and 24”?

I thought they always had poured in foam from the factory no?

The older ones have Styrofoam sheet foam. Which I think would weigh less then the pour / spray in foam.

Are you looking for an 18 Mariner or will any Tin work?

I don't like the wasted space on my 16' closed bow fiberglass so I'm really leaning toward a center console or open bow right now, but not 100% set in stone on that.

Just a dirty fishing hull, I'd consider any type of tin hull 18 ft/ under 850lbs or so. Don't want replace the transom right away, needing deck replaced is ok.
Planning to use my 70hp evinrude.

^^^ Yea looks like an SS. Trailers worth $800 - That's funny, but a nice galvanized roller. If the floors are shot there is a great chance the transom is too. The good news is you can replace that in a few days.

Offer $500 buy at $600 / $650 at most. be fishing in a month. Might need new motor control cables for your motor.

Yeah I wouldn't go higher than that. I'm going to check it out this weekend. Just talked to the owner, says he thinks it's 1969, he's not sure of the model but the plate is there, will get back to me.

If its 1969, looking at this chart and the brochure listed on this website, I'm guessing its the offshore V perhaps. There is no 18'SS

In the 1969 hull specs, offshore v is almost identical to the Holiday, but weighs over 100 lbs more (due to bells and whistles I suppose?)
Looking at the Holiday specs, I assume the offshore v is also about 800lbs without any "extras". Do you agree?

offShore V =920lbs
Holiday =810

With my 70hp, i'm trying to be mindful of the weight, I turned down a $450 19' sea nymph CC191 because it was 1000lbs dry... I have dreams about that boat like it's a lost dog.

could be a starchief too...

18ft starcraft Mystery boat.
Don't know if you saw this one.
thanks for reminding me, I had that one saved but never asked about it. I just texted it now.

I think the no pics + $750 for a project with no trailer or even scrap motor made me push that one aside.
