1985 gt 150 backfires and wont start

went to launch boat today motor stared when i put it in grear it died then went to restar it all it would to is backfire i have cked for good spark it is blue is it possible the shear pin slipped in the flywheel ? or something else i need to look for

Yes.........it's possible. Does the spark jump a 7/16" open air gap on a spark tester ??

The flywheel key is an excellent place to start looking if you've got a backfire. If that is not it, check to be sure all the spark plug coil leads are going to the correct plug.

Pull the flywheel and check the key.
