Re: bottom paint

Hi Stewart. What type of paint is on there now? If you rub your fingers across it does it come off or stay on?

This will matter.

Good Luck!

Re: bottom paint

The bottom paint on it now is the marine blue standard bottom paint, leaves a white film on your fingers when you rub it, kind of chalky, its a full time lake boat, just purchased the boat and would prefer it to be a black and more sleek/glossy

Re: bottom paint

Problem is...there is no standard paint. Two common types are either ablative or hard (keeping this simple). Appears to be ablative.

This is important to know what "type" of paint we have here to proceed with a recommendation on your selection.

Good Luck!

Re: bottom paint

You only need antifouling paint if the lake will grow slime. It would be best to check with other boaters who use the lake. If no slime, you can go back with two part polyurethane or an epoxy paint. This solution requires the boat be stripped to bare gelcoat.

if you need or prefer antifouling paint, powerwash what you have and roll some new paint over it. Prime any bare spots with a marine primer. Standard ablative paint is a bit better than std AF paint, and will work fine. There are some hard AF paints, that take special prep.
