adding guages to my boat?

i was wondering if its possible to add rpm, mph,etc guages to the dash in my boat if they never had any to start with? Ive seen guages for sale but I didnt know where to find the sensors or whatever else it might take to make them work.<br />thanks<br /><br />btw the motor is a 79 Evinrude 35hp if it matters...actually by the time I will be using the guages it'll be a mid 80s Merc 50hp. Are the guages/sensors universal?

For speed, I know you can get replacement pitot tubes (the little white plastic spike sticking down just past the transom), and maybe a whole speedo kit. Or you can get GPS powered speedometers. For tach, I'd say check with your Evinrude or Merc dealer.<br /><br />OK, I just looked at Cabela's Marine catalog and found some gauge kits by Teleflex. Or you could try Overtons.
