Looking for correct impeller

I have a 1988 Cobra, not king, 5.7 looking for impeller kit. Seem to find two out there, one with 6 blades, one with more. Also would like to get complete kit or what ever I need to replace.

The original OMC part number is 983895. The corresponding GLM part no. is 89950 and Sierra part no. 18-3058. The correct impeller kit is here: Water Pump Impeller Repair Kit for OMC Sterndrive Cobra 984461, GLM 12091 - Sierra 18-3212-1 - iboats

Some I see have the black housing, some do not. Is that part usually need to be replaced? It looks like it may be hard to find if you do not get it in the kit.

Hey,

Hows that Lib running?

You probably don't have to replace the housing every time you replace the impeller if you're not injesting a LOT of sand or it gets run dry.

Can't remember if it's a plastic housing or not but if it is and it gets run dry, it wouldn't last long.....
(I seem to remember the SS impeller housing getting hot inside it's plastic outer housing?)
