Little hole or gap

Hi there ive just replaced the water pump on my Johnson 55 workhorse the water is coming out of the tell tale ok when i put the leg back together i noticed that there is a little hole about 2ml at the front where it joins to upper casing of upper leg facing the transom and that there is water squirting out of it is this suppose to happen or did it have a rubber bung or grommet to block it of??? im thinking that it might have dropped of when i sepparated the bottom leg from it any help will be appreciated

It is supposed to be there and open. It is a drain hole to drain the housing when the motor is tilted. The water you see coming out is water that has gone through the powerhead and done it's job of cooling the exhaust housing.

Make sure all drain holes are free of debris, so water doesn't get held in over winter and freeze.
