I have a 2002 Mercury 50 hp 2-stroke, it idles fine, but soon as you give it gas the rpm's shoot out of site. I was hoping it was just the carbs needing to be cleaned. Rebuilt all three carbs, fuil pump, and replaced the fuil line. still the same, dose anybody got anything?

Re: idle

You should check to see if you have a spun prop. Just mark the prop shaft and prop with magic marker so they are lined up and try it again. If the lines are not lined up after that, the prop is spun and needs to be fixed, or replaced if it is in real bad shape. JMO

Re: idle

What do you expect would happen since there is no load on the engine. Put your car in neutral and step on the gas. Does it not rev up as well? An engine running on half it's cylinders will rev to the moon in neutral. Unless you are not describing this correctly, there isn't a problem.
