Hi there,
The front crank case on my mercury 40 4 cylinder has a bit of damage to it and I think air is getting in.can I use a front crank case from another engine or are they machine and matched together?

This is not a recommended pratice but on that 44 cu. in. block I have seen it done many times on racing engines they are factory machined together and the alignment pins must be removed. Some time it requires several differant front halves to get a good fit.
