mc-1 welch plug

I cannot figure out how to install the welch plug on the upper housing of my 79 mc1 drive. I have a new one, but it only just lays in there and doesn't seem to be a way to hold it in place....usually it looks like its covered with a mercruiser sticker. But my sticker is missing.


Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

In my limited experience with a Welch plug (one install, on a B&S carb.), you set it in place and wack the domed surface to lock it into place. Then coat with a sealer (the B&S manual specified clear nail polish).

Thank you. It makes sense now, I just needed a little bit of knowledge. This is what happens when you get someone like me, with no mechanical experience, trying to put these things together.
