Gm 5.7 lg sgi

My motor has GM 5.7LG SGI with 14093638 engraved on the block. I've looked for a serial number, told its by the back of the starter, no luck.
Can anyone out there tell me the year and if there is any other "hidden" serial number on it.

Many thanks for any info about the motor. Would pics help?

The number you have is the casting number. My book says 87-95 one piece rear main. I think that is all you can get from that number

Post some pictures, year of the boat, lots of ways of getting close to what you have.

Drive or better yet transom shield serial numbers could help as well.

Here are pics of the 5.7 LG SGI No serial number wondering about the age. I know nothing about the boat it came out of. Pics of the housing and the label on the outdrive marked 888. I plan on replacing the motor in the next set of pics with this.

Next set of pics my future boat.

I'm hoping to pull the motor with 228 stickered on the valve cover out of this boat and put my motor in the above set of pics into this boat. Can do a total replacement but hoping above motor bolts up to the housing already in the boat. Any chance of that??
Couldn't get a number of this outdrive its gone.

Ayuh,... You might be able to put that motor in that boat,...

The Problem is gonna be the Drive,..
It's a TR/ TRS drive,...
It's antique, 'n parts for it are very, Very limited....

Ayuh,.... Atleast you can buy parts for it....

The TRS drives don't shift, 'n have a transmission mounted ahead of it,...
The transom hole is also bigger...
It's a very heavy-duty drive, just hard to get parts for...

Is the transom hole going to be a issue when I remove every thing from the boast and install the 5.7l and the 888 outdrive?

Well, as I said, It's BIGGER....

The 888 Ain't gonna bolt in, til ya refill, 'n recut the transom....

Mercruiser sells a filler plate, but it ain't cheap, 'n doin' it with plywood is a 'ell of alot cheaper, but more time consumin'...

One more question, is the lower unit casing in the picture of the the one attached to the boat interchangeable with the lower unit on the 888 outdrive. And if so the inside parts must be interchangeable? My 888 lower unit has a crack right through behind the zinc trim anode. Hoping to switch. Welding is a last resort.

I have access to a Izuzu diesel. that has a older (1985ish) 280 Volvo leg outdrive on it. Motor needs maintenance but probably worth doing. Question is does the 280 Volvo outdrive have the same transom hole as the TR/TRS??

I have this x dimension template, Can I use it for my mercruiser 188 outdrive? And I'm not up on blowing it up and having it printed. Do i need to know a size to have it blown up to when i get it printed..? If so anyone know the size? Thanks for the help..

That's not even close to the right one. That's for a Volvo 270 to 280 Way too big of a hole.
Merc doesn't seem to have one anymore, but the Volvo SX cutout is the same, and you can get their templates.
