I have a 1999 Yamaha 200 that runs great, but I get an overheat alarm when idling. Has a new pump installed but the pressure on the right side isn't good. I pulled the head to check the gasket just to make sure and it was ok. The top cylinder gets way hotter than the rest of the motor. The left side is good. Any ideas? I have read on here about the pressure valve and the poppet valve but would either of them just effect the rt. side? Thanks for any help!

The stream is not weak but definately not strong. When running over idle, no problems at all.

Re: 1999 yamaha 200 running hot on rt. bank

always post your model #
what are you calling the right bank?

pulling and inspecting/testing the stats is a simple job and one of them can go bad
while you are at it inspect/clean or replace the PRV. If it sticks open it will dump too much water and cause overheating on top cylinders

If all is good then inspect the water pump houseing to make sure it is not damaged

If its running hot at idle and not at higher rpm's, then you have a water volume problem. The upper right head is the highest point in the engine and the first to starve for water when flow decreases. I would first replace the water pump to see if that solves the problem. Also if the port thermostat is stuck open, it can starve the starboard head. Lastly, remove and clean the pressure poppet valve.
