Hi all. I have just ordered a new aluminum 14 foot fishing boat and a mercury 20 HP motor. Is there any hardware to help keep the motor on the boat and not in someone else's garage?

This is quite a vague discription. You bough these seperately? You need to attach it to the Boat? can you be a bit more specific on the details please.

The motor mounting clamp has holes for putting bolts with nuts through the transom which will slow down the opportunistic thief. There is also a locking device you can purchase separately and install over the clamp screws to add another level of security. As we all know,if the bad guy is determined, they will still get your motor.Hope this helps, and good luck.

Thanks. The boat and motor are being set up by Cabellas. The aforementioned device to cover the mounting screws sounds good. It will at least deter most borrowers. Thanks again

There should be a tab with a good size hole in it on the transom tilt tube or near there that can have a chain, or cable run through the brace in the boat. to stiffen the transom that you can at a saftey chain and lock it to the motor. This along with the bar lock cover Windy talked about will help stop ones with light fingers, and will also keep the motor from going to the bottom of the lake if you happen to hit someting and the motor comes off the boat. Doing the chain deal is known as a saftey chain and could save one a bundle of $$$ in the long run. And yes I have seen it happen more than once. JMO
