Try lightly tapping the motor with butt of screwdriver and see what happens; may be a brush sticking. Good luck

Take some jumper wires and go directly to the tilt mtr itself and try it. If it still groans, it would sound like a bad t/t mtr. If it works okay, look for bad connections in the system.

Is it possible there's an airlock in the system ? May require bleeding or top up of oil ? Sounds like the ram might be cavitating (sucking air)
Just a thought ?

Re: 90 Hp Johnson tilt/trim trouble

thanks for everyones ideas / help tried all that was suggested, removed the trim/tilt complete set up from outboard (without removing motor from transom ) very simple :joyous: . pulled trim motor cover off and heap of oil,and broken magnet. Would explain the noise got new motor on the way with new seals .
