Good evening. I'm looking to purchase a Johnson V6 "Limited Edition" and I could not find the label plate for the serial number. However, I found that the serial number is stamped in between the cylinders in a chrome looking "plug" and it's stamped G2952510. I can't find anywhere what this means? Can someone please help? Thanks.

Unfortunately that is a core plug that will sometime contain both the model and serial number, but what you have listed is just a serial number.... to ID the engine, the model number is needed.

Look on the port transom bracket (bkt that attaches eng to boat) for a small plate that would contain both numbers. Also, if a late model, look for a heavy duty decal that would be located at the top portion of the engine's swivel bracket 9bkt that engine swings/turns on.... between the swivel bracket and the long exhaust housing.

Other than that, pictures of the hood (side/front/back) might help as well as other pictures of the engine showing its detail.

I've checked this motor throughout and I cannot find a model number. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Excellent job on the pictures. The hood design is never carried over to a following year, hence the pictures of the hood alone will define the year. I retired in 1991 and do not have the proper book but I'm sure that someone will be along shortly with the info you require.

You could call BRP customer service at 1-262-884-5993 and give them the # you have and they may be able to tell you what it is.

That engine is between a 1988 and 1992 and were made by OMC's perfromance company called 2nd Effort. If I remember correctly they were a "hotter" version, and noisier, than the recreational engines. Most routine parts are the same as the regular motors for that range of years.

Thank you gentleman, I appreciate your time and assistance. I've read in other forums that the "Limited Edition" had carbs from a 225 motor. Whether that is true or not I have no idea. I'm not going to get hung up on the "Limited Edition" label though. I did call BRP and they were able to cross the S/N to a model number; J200STLEI. Again thank you very much.

J200STLEI = 1991 200hp Johnson.... Great that BRP was able to deciper the core plug number.
