302495 is still a good number. You gotta get it from an Evinrude dealer, or somebody selling OEM Evinrude parts. It ain't cheap---about 25 bucks.

Now is there a technique to getting that seal off because I got the drive shaft one out in 20min but this one is being a pain? Next how do you replace the lower shift rod seal because I don't know if you could get your hand in there looks tight? Should I change the flush washer I didnt inspect because I didnt see them when I took it apart?
thanks for all your help!!!!

Are you using a standard seal puller on the drive shaft seal? They usually pop right out, may need to mangle it a bit to get her free, just try not to damage the housing.

The shift rod seal requires a special tool to remove. PM F_R on this forum above, he sells them, along with many other helpful tools.

If you need help with the seal kit, shoot me a PM.

I think one of the reasons may be that Sierra no longer carries it.

I was selling the whole seal kit for about that, I should up my prices! lol

I didn't see any thrust washers when I took the lower end apart ? So I thinking I have to get two. Also what kind of grease should I use to put it all back together and which way do the seals face when installing them? Thanks agin

There should be a thrust washer on either side of the dog between dog and fwd gear and dog and reverse gear. Same washer for either, part number 301884. Look close first, they lay flat against the inside of the gear. Im sure they are there

Hypoid gear oil is fine.

I dont think I have ever needed to replace the thrust washers. I am sure they are fine.

The bushing is likely also fine. It simply holds the oring in place. A little 3M 847 around it before installing couldnt hurt if the housing or bushing has mild damage. Dont drive it in past the housing or you will crush the oring too much and get water intrusion. You want it flush.

Sorry I dont know what you meam by "should I use hypoid oil for all seals and orings".

You use hypoid oil to fill the gearcase when you are all done.

Put the seals so that the spring/lip side is on the oil side. The flat/SS surface facing out so that it is flush with the housing.

Re: 15hp Super fastwin cant find drive shaft seal 41A62!

The easy way or the harder way?

The easy way is to get the tool to do it. Frank makes it as well. He has thought of all these problems hasnt he!

The harder way is to make a couple custom tools out of paper clips or other similar wire.

Cut 2 pieces about 5" long. Round off and smooth both ends. Now bend little loops on 1 end of each. This is your handle.Bend the loops about 3/8" to 1/2" diameter.

Now on 1 of the tools, bend a hook with about 1/16" radius. This tool will be for pulling the o ring out.

To remove the o rings, use your straight tool to depress the plunger valve, then use the hooked tool to pull the o ring out.

To replavce the o rings, put a drop of oil on o ring, and place on connnector face. Depress valve plunger again with straight tool by passing it through the o ring. Pinch the o ring together with your fingers and stuff it into position on its seat. Then use the straight tool already inserted to position the o ring by twirling it in a circle in the inside diameter of the o ring.

Now check for leaks.

I have done both and swear by Franks tool. Makes it easy and prevents damaging the o ring.

BTW, use only the OEM o rings, aftermarket are not nearly as good.
