I have a 1980 115 hp evinrude TLCSA with a prestolite starter mgl4109. Has a damaged bendix gear. Parts for this starter are hard to find or are expensive. I was wondering if there are some aftermarket starters out there and if so what are the cross reference numbers that will fit this motor? Thanks for all info.

Re: starter woes

There are aftermarket starters out there. This website has a cross reference but did not see this starter listed. I think your starter crosses to 18-5647 sierra part number. This one is not much cheaper at $160. Also saw a drive gear for $80, definetly pricey.

You could also check Arco in Pensacola FL.
