Hey guys just picked up a super clean outboard. 140 psi in all 3 cylinders, electric system charging great, shifts smoothly, pees strong and looks great! But there is water coming from the spot pictured below when running on the hose. Is this normal?

And just for kicks....

Anybody know? I checked some vids on youtube and it seems as if all these motors have water coming from there.

Absolutely normal. Possibly more than usual because you are running it on hose pressure. FYI, it is water that has escaped from the hole in the water pump housing that the drive shaft passes through. There are a couple of large holes to drain it off. That is what you are seeing. If not allowed to drain, it would back up to the powerhead and cause damage.

Not 100% sure for a 75 but I have two 70s and Both spew water from there when running on the muffs and this is normal and not a problem as long as your telltail is pissing. I see no reason why the 75 would be any different. Hope this helps!

And thanks for also giving me the "why" F_R. I have never worked on one of these waterpumps......yet :)

Beautiful looking engine. I got one too. Yep, turn the water down.

Man I use my iPhone and it does proper punctuation and spelling automatically but sometimes it makes it way worse.

Maybe try putting a small kink in the hose. Not sure what damage can be done but someone told me years ago to never run the hose at full blast. I'm guessing that you want to check if the impellar is pumping so the impellar should do the work of pushing water out the pee hole and not the water pressure.

Yea I am going to get a valve for the hose just before the muffs, that way I can regulate pressure as well as turn the water on and off there.

Re: '84 Evinrude 75hp. Is water supposed to come from there?

I had the same question when I 1st ran my new to me 50hp. At the time noone seamed to be able to answer the question though through some web surfing I found that it is part of the water circulation system and aids in cooling the exhaust tubes. The water you see coming from the front is actually exiting a hole that was cast there just for that purpose.

Still have to say again, that is a sweet looking engine!
