I had a hatch in the cabin floor of the Cheiftain to store the bumpers and such in. I enlarged the hole and build a wood fish box. Since I was not sure how well I am going to like the fish box I built it out of 1/4 underfloor plywood. The stuff you put under your kitchen floor before you put vinyl flooring down. For cost I coated it with a exterior decking primer. I have used this primer before and it seals plywood very well. I expect many years of use out of the fish box. If it works real well I might coat with marine epoxy next winter. The size is 34"x20x 6-9" deep. Hold about 20 gallons.
Now this will give me some extra room in the cabin because most of the time I can now leave my 100qt. igloo at home.

I still need to finish the inside of the cabin were I took the old fake wood off the seats. As you see in the pictures the cabin seats are not finished.

Nice job Elk, looks to be a great use of wasted space.

Looks good. If the primer seals like you say it'll be great. How are you gonna drain the water? Seems like it would be awful heavy to lift out and dump. A drain in it ought to work, but you'd have to rinse the hull often.
