Merc driveshaft Standard short shaft to Bigfoot. Will t work

Ok I have someone asking me if the standard small gear LU Driveshaft that fits both a 1979 40 HP and a 1979 70 HP will work in a bigfoot LU. I know the Bigfoot has bigger gears and a bigger casing and the water pickup location is different. as well as a different pinion gear ratio. Has anyone hold knowledge the the shaft is or is not the same length and will accept the pinion gear for the bigfoot? It is supposedly on a 60 HP SN Unknown. Year Unknown.

From my checking on the driveshaft compatably, it looks as tho it would depend on the SR# of the motors. As there were two shafts for those motors. Best bet is to call Merc Marine and ask them as to compatabilty. JMO

Just FYI the big foot and stock lower unit will not interchange as midsections are different and will not bolt up and the driveshaft will not interchange. If his is a bigfoot only the bigfoot shaft from 1992 and up will work

Here is his information. Searial: 1B 729 792 Aug2008 60 ELPTO Remember He just wants to use my driveshaft. Short shaft. In the bigfoot housing with the bigfoot pinion gear. Or My pinion gear if the bigfoot gears would line up. I do see 2 different style shafts. I,d also need to know what the length of the shaft for the engine listed would be. Reread my post above ...it will not interchange as gears, driveshaft, bearings, impeller and housing are different.....
