So i have read a few threads on here about this "PIVOT PIN". well i took this out not knowing what it actually was.....ummm WTF did i do that! LOL well I was trying to lower my lower unit and change the gear oil. After I removed the pin i rotated the prop and I also turned the flywheel trying to get the lower unit to come loose...that didnt work. Now I havnt looked to see how far off the holes are but worst case scenrio what is going to have to happen?

I've had luck by turning my motor up-side-down and using a pic to line up the hole. Worst case scenario, you have to tear down the gear case.
Good luck.

What does turing it upside down do? Not trying to be smart ***** just trying to figure out how it works.

What ever happened to reading an owners manual ???? If you can't get it you may have to tear it down.

Re: 1989 Evinrude 35 HP Pivot Pin

you can completely remove everything in the gearcase and get the pin to seat, the trick is to get it to go through the lever!! looks like you may need a service manual, and while you're that deep into it, a seal kit might not be a bad idea!

the pin goes through #42. bottom right in the diagram. ( the hole is just a dot in the pic). its the hinge point for the lever.

try rocking the prop back and forth while trying to shift. ( remove plug wires so it doesnt start accidently)
