2hp or 3hp For My Canoe

I recently got a 12' flat-back aluminum canoe and want to put a 2 or 3 hp motor on it.

I have a lead on two small Johnson outboards: a 1990 3 hp Johnson (2 cyl) and; a 2 hp Johnson (1 cyl - 70's).

Does anyone know the weight difference of these motors?

Although the 2hp should be okay perhaps I should get the 3 hp if they weigh approximately the same. Both have integral tanks.

2 cyl should be a much smoother running engine. Don't know what the weight difference would be, just a guess would be 10 pounds.

The JohnnyRude 3 to 4.5HP twins are the best outboards ever made. Smooth and relatively quiet. My JW-13 Johnny 3HP (no gear shift) weighed 30lb.

If I had a small square stern canoe an early ('64 or later) 3HP would be my only choice.

Does that canoe have a maximum horsepower / capacity plate?

A 3 is more than you need but the E/J 3s are amazing little motors.
Only about 34 lbs most routine parts are readily available in any number of places including here.
