Battery goes dead

2004 115hp Yamaha 4 stroke battery goes dead while in storage. People at boat shop said this is normal something in the motor has a constance drain on battery. Does this sound correct? Maybe the stero?

Shouldn't be any drain with the engine turned off. Disconnect the battery when stored. Could be nothing more than a failing battery.

Check for any draw on the battery when the ignition is OFF. Make sure you pull the key when in storage to make sure you are OFF and not on ACC. If no drain, key OFF, you problem is the battery. If there is a drain you have 2 choices, live with it and disconnect the battery when in storage, OR find the drain. The second option would be the best, but could also be very time consuming.

It never hurts to pull the battery from the boat before you put it to bed for the winter. Put it on a couple pieces of wood (helps to keep the battery from discharging) and charge it a few times over the winter. It helps you get a season or two more out of it.

Thanks for the replies. Battery test good. I believe it might be the radio. Going to disconnect the wire that keeps the preset stations and see what happens. Will add a disconnect switch of I have to.

Remove battery while boat is in storage...keep it in your garage/workshop and put a 2 amp charge on it every few weeks to maintain full charge....all batteries will slowly go dead just sitting there. It's not healthy for the life of the battery to not maintain a charge on it. Good Luck!
