buying a 2004 Sea Hunt Triton that does not have any finish (has been waxed)
and wondering if I should put a barrier system on the bottom or just anti fowling
paint.
Would appreciate any comments from power boaters out there. She will be sitting
on a mooring in Salt Water when not in use from June to mid Sept.
Would you put a barrier system and anti fowling, your experiences pls

Welcome to iBoats.

I find a good hunting dog will keep away the birds. <grin>

I'm not qualified to comment on anti-fouling materials.

Interlux (brand) Marine Coatings have been around for 50 years that I know of. Might tweak them.

Hi, and welcome to iboats!

Barrier (double) coat, definitely, to seal the gelcoat and help prevent blister formation. Follow that up with 2-3 coats of anti-fouling. A common method (at least for ablative coatings) is to do the first coat in one color, and subsequent coats in a different color. That way you know when the coating is getting worn away.

I'd poll boaters in your area for anti-fouling recommendations. Every region seems to have a different growth problem (here it's barnacles) and I've never seen a consensus on a paint that works 'everywhere'.

JoLins' comment is right on, but I'd like to add that you want to make sure you remove all the wax and give the gelcoat a light sanding
before you apply the berrier coats. Liquid dish shoap works pretty good.

I have a 2004 sea hunt triton, too (21') great boat; you'll love it! check out the seashunt owners forum.

I keep mine moored in salt water year round.

I bought mine used with a virgin bottom. I use the inerlux micron ablative. I got a boat yard to apply the primer (barrier) and then paint 2 coats. I repaint every 2 years or so. I haul it (trailer) about every 3 months to clean the bottom; the growth gets on the transom and waerline, since that is out of the water on a plane (ablative paint basically sheds what grows on it).

You will use a different primer/paint for your metal parts: trim tabs, ladder brace, bottom corner of motor, etc. They are all unreasonably expensive and none of them work. Just saying.

LOL- ain't that the truth. A favorite(?) pasttime at our summer raftups is for several of us to get into the water with scrapers and go from boat to boat scraping barnacles off the props, I/O legs and trim tabs.

Welcome to iBoats . . .

Anti-fouling (fowling is for the birds)

Since you will be in salt water for a while each year . . . yes, go with the barrier coat. And then go with high-end Pettit or similar brand ablative i.e., the expensive stuff. In my experience, I have used Pettit copper ablative on my sailboat, but on my powerboats, I have used ePaint EP-2000 with excellent results.
