Looking for a mechanic to work on or help me with my Yanmar 2gm20f. I think the injectors need cleaning or replacing and probably need a piston ring job. Engine's blowing smoke at startup and over about 2400rpm (black, maybe blue) and guzzling oil. Local shoprates are about $106/hr at established service shops, and that's overwhelming for a job like this. I'm relatively handy, but have never ventured inside an engine. Anyone have any ideas or names?

Doubtful you could get one of thes mechanics to just stand there and watch for free and guide you
through it. Likely would cost a couple of keg's of Molson at minimum.

I'm moving this to boat topics. Lots of people may know of good mechanics in your area that don't own or work on one, and never visit the diesel forum.

First off I would pull the injectors and take them in for a "POP" test.
If the injectors are not sealing they will leak down under extreme pressure and at rest making the motor smoke.
Look in the yellow pages, I know of a couple in langley and one off the #1 in Abbotsford that supposedly do good work.

And the injectors should be rebuildable. (Nozzels and tips??)
