I am installing a 12 volt trolling motor on my pontoon with two 12 volt batteries to run the trolling motor. I have a third 12 volt battery to start the 70 hp yamaha. Is there a way to hook up the trolling motor batteries to the outboard and charge them when you are running down the lake?

Re: trolling motor battery charging

They have those here at iboats Boat Battery Isolators - iboats.

The problem is unless your lake is really really long it will never charge all 3 batteries, I believe it works like this, when battery 1 is charged it switches to battery 2 till it is charged ect so with the minimal out put of an outboard I sure wouldn't count on that to keep all 3 batteries charged.

Also outboard alternators are dependant on rpm so you would need to be at WOT for quite a period to get any real charge out of it.

I would also reccomend one of these to keep all 3 batteries charged equally giving them the best life span ProTournament Professional Series Battery Chargers - iboats
