My 1998 115 hp Evinrude Ocean Pro is running rough. I thought that I was hitting something under the water because every now and then the motor would 'jump' - kind of like I was hitting a log while running. It is now happening more and more frequent. It seams that the motor is missing when running at high rpm's. Can someone help me with where to start on fixing this problem? I have not been able to trend anything on the problem, only that is misses when running at high rpm's...

Thanks,

Steve

Is it running smooth before the bump? If so, it may not be missing, it may be jumping in and out of gear.

It runs smooth...it jumps or 'clunks' every now and then, and it is becoming more and more frequent. It only does it while running medium to high rpm's. It has not happened while idling. What would be causing it to jump out of gear?

Bad clutch dog and forward gear or loose shift linkage.
