70 vro evinrude motor

Hi i have 1985 70 vro engine just bought having problems with running.The engine idles and will run about 1/2 throttle but bogs out after that but if i push the choke key switch in it goes i replaced tank,gas lines,spark plugs any suggestions?

Sounds like carb repair time. Cleaning and new kits.

Had carbs cleaned but not new kit u think that's the problem.I was thinking it was the fuel pump.

could be fuel pump to. new carb kit usually replaces needles and seats. for the resonable cost of those kits here on iboats I'd do both carb kits and fuel pump. Good to go for another 20 years.

Is there any way to check fuel pump to rule that out,if not would you go back to the vro fuel pump or after market one i'am not using the oil side i premix thanks.would u know the part# for the fuel pump

When you push the choke in and it runs what you are doing is bypassing the carbs and that will tell you the fuel pump is working.

when you disconnected the VRO did you do the complete job? I don't recall what it is, but you can't just yank the hose off. There are parts you need to install.

For the vro conversion to run on 50:1 fuel, look in the Top Secret File at the begining of this forum.

Home cookin you are wrong
there is no parts needed to disconnect the vro and go pre-mix, its a very simple process.

if the fuel is now on premix and you suspect the fuel pump has gone bad then do yourself a big favour and
go back to old style fuel pump.
Much cheaper on parts in the future and bullet proof.
The vro style pump is far too expensive to even think about repairing or buying new.
I had a vro pump go bad, infact 2 of them, the price to rebuild is very high and these pumps DO NOT last as
long as the old style before needing to be rebuilt again.

The old style pump with 3 pipes is the one you need, 1 pipe to the pulse 1 from tank and 1 to the carbs.

But like said above it sounds like the carbs are either dirty or need new parts.
And make sure you clean every orifice in the carbs and use all the parts when rebuilding.
