Asking year and horse?

In examining a motor for sale advertized as 70hp mid 80's I see the tag as model E60ELCMM. Also the serial as J0116473. I would suspect this as a 1973 60 horse, but I am not qualified in code decifering. It is a two cylindar Searhorse. Friendly help would be appreciated.

The model # doesn't make sense. Better check it again.

It is a 60HP. They didn't make a 2 cylinder 70. There is an error in the model number. My guess is that it is a E60ELCN(X), which would be a 1982. (The X is for a number that doesn't matter).

Nah.....its most likely to be E60ELCNM.....decodes to (E) - Evinrude (60) - 60hp (E) - electric start (L) - longshaft (CN) - 1982 (M) - model run at the factory. I have the the same motor except mine has factory power t&t (TL instead of EL). "Seahorse" is a Johnson term so it may have a replacement Johnno powerhead and cowl......where did he get the two numbers from? Model number from the bracket and serial number from the powerhead?

The numbers are stamped on the tag rivited on. The cowl decal is seahorse. Rather beat up and corroded lower section, on a heavy fiberglass 17 footer. I will give this one a pass. Thanks for info guys.
