Hello, ive decided to pull the powerhead off my E70 4stroke to replace what i thought was the sump gasket leaking out beside the top mounts. After removing powerhead and engine carrier ive realised it must be the gasket between powerhead and carrier, not carrier to sump as the oil must of been coming from higher up. Anyhow, its all good as i had both new gaskets and exhaust manifold gasket, im just not sure if i should be using a gasket sealer around these tin/steel pressed gaskets??
last thing i want to do is find it still leaking from a slight warp, but also dont want it to not seal because of the sealer.

Would appreciate some advice from someone who has replaced these type of pressed tin gaskets before, ive only ever dealt with rubber and cork type.

To glue or not to glue???

Thanks
Greg

Did this only leak when you had the mtr tilted up ??

These are very tricky gaskets. Not a fan of them.
But, anyway, I use a very very thin layer of high temp RTV on these assemblies.
The leaking I am trying to prevent is water into the oil though.
Consequently, I only apply the RTV around the pressurized water passage area. Inspect the engine holder, you will see the small
passage for water to travel to the powerhead.

I know you are trying to stop oil leakage out....but I have not had that issue....yet.

I worked on one of these that would only leak when tilted up. Found the adapter under the p/h was cracked. Go to shop.evin.com and look up your mtr. You'll find it in midsection and oil system. Part # is 5031162 holder, item # 2. This is in the upper mtr mt area and I talked to BRP about this and they said it was rather common. Check it out and let us know.

Ahh very interesting Boobie, I cleaned the adapter up and never noticed any cracks around the oil passages. Then again I wasn't really searching for one either. Could have easily missed a small hairline but the top gasket surface was certainly not cracked and measured square. I chose to run a light 3-5mm bead around the adapter to powerhead gasket. Only around the water passage and oil passages. Hopefully I get time to fill it with oil today and see if its worked.
I'll tear up if it still leaks. Not a huge job to get it off but something I'd rather not be having on and off for the hell of it.

Thanks guys ill keep ya posted on the results.
