hi
i am running a mariner 40hp oilinjet 1995 el
it will travel about 1-2 km then just stop and will re start no probs this will hot happen all the time then runs fine
i have disconected the engine harness but still happens so its coming from motor electrics.
would it be coil!!! trigger coil !!! but i doe know its not a shortting wire hay
could it be the heating censor but engine not hot
i have also removed the thermostat so that engine is running cool
what could it be great boat gods

thanks pezza

Re: spark stops

tell us more. does it slow down to a dead stop with the engine not even running - with the throttle not moved? then restart by itself ? Or do you restart it ? And what do you do to restart?

he is running and it quits dead then restarts with no issues. I would think bad wiring but he,s assured us that it,s not electrical wiring in nature so that leaves a bad componant )Not likely) or a fuel issue.

Re: spark stops

Sounds as thou the vent on the tank is not open letting enough air flow into the tank. Make sure that the vent is open on a portable tank, and that there is no bugs nest in the vent line if a fuel cell is used. JMO

it just switches off to dead stop then i move throttle to neutral turn key off what maybe 1-2 seconds turn it over and starts back up no trouble ; then it may doe it again about 1km then not again.
next time out may not doe it at all travelling at 3000 to 4000 revs

thanks for all this input keep it up and we will find it merry xmass to all

Re: spark stops

It sounds like either a fuel supply problem or an electrical problem. The carb could be running dry or there's an electrical component acting up. Gas-wise, look for loose throttle linkage on the carb [a loose lock screw] or a somehow blocked fuel line or a gas tank vent. Are there two gas filters ...one being a water filter that may not have been changed for a while. Electrically, take off the CDI unit and look at the back of it [shiny filler] and look for signs of overheating, particularly where it comes near the engine block. There could also be a real intermittent ground problem in a stop circuit ....requires a continuity test [VOM] and a lot of wiggling. Check your wiring doing a continuity test ...could be a frayed wire somewhere .... and also up under the powerhead [where the trigger coil moves].

Re: spark stops

You better put the therm back in or you will be looking at doing an engine job...Cold Sieze the cylinder...Been there done that....Running cold has nothing to do with the issue you are having..Good Luck...
