20" and 25" looper midsections

Are they the same? I have a 20" 140 midsection on the boat now without a lower or powerhead. I have a 25" on a stand with a good power head. What i want to do is just put the 20" lower on the 25 midsection and bolt the whole deal onto the boat. These are the same motors a 1985 Johnson 140 and a 1990 evenrude.

Won't work. 5 " difference.

the lower units are very different in size, I was hoping that the midsections were the same . Would save me from removing the powerhead.

The 1985 140hp is a crossflow and the 1990 140hp is a looper and midsections are different other than length. If they are the same the 1990 140 is not a 1990

Mabey i have a year wrong then because there both loopers. Model e140tlese and j140txco.

Did some checking they will interchange....

So far between the two, 7 seised / snapped bolts. 3 were on the motor thats junked. Waiting on carb kits and gaskets.
