I have a 2004 2 stroke 15 that I am performing a carb rebuild on (WMC 83). Upon removal of carb I note a seemingly silicone thin gasket on the plenum. And what appears to be a coating in the plenum (looks similar to Teflon) that has a chip missing. I'm trying to determine if the gasket is standard (it has two distinct ridges of uniform elevation & taper). It does not look "DIY". It varies significantly from the gasket included in the rebuild kit, but only in form.

Lastly the chip in the coating gives me some concern. I obviously don't want chips making their way into the cylinders. Is there a fix for this?

Thank you in advance.

Got me. A picture or two would help showing the location of the gasket or whatever and a pic. of it. Ensuring proper focus on the camera will help too. A lot of close in shots are blurry and you can't determine what you are looking at.

I can't help you man. I don't recognize anything there and have never worked on that engine. A mechanic will jump on this and come to your rescue.

If you mean the black coating on reed block that is rubber and they do flake and spider crack due to fuel....

Ahh.. Ok.. Reed block.. What about that gasket in the yellow area? It looks almost recessed. The one that comes with the repair kit is a flat gasket..

Just as a point of reference I found that there was some information that pointed to an o-ring type gasket on the carb to reed block connection. Apparently there may have been some issues with the vulcanized rubber ones? Not sure.. but I decided that the o-ring looked to be in decent shape and left it alone. I believe my issue was primarily with carb internals getting gummed up.
