water impeller is my guess....really on that old of a McCscott if you plan to keep it and if it brings you joy best to reseal re pump the whole lower works and go another 20 years, I bet its been years since it was serviced.
what and model number? is it a bailer a matic?,
I just picked up another 10hp Scott Atwater, 1957 in pastel blue.....looks like a 1960 Chrysler Imperial in the front, I think I have 6 or 7 or maybe thats 7 1/2
