Conversoin to Freshwater cooling

I just bought a '92 Bayliner Trophy 2352, and I'm replacing the 5.7 SBC. I am thinking of converting to freshwater cooling. I have a Sen-Dure heat exchanger for a big-block, but need to know if I'll need to add a raw water pump with a thru-hull, or if I can just use the low-volume pump residing in the Alpha 1 Gen 2 leg. Any advice is appreciated...

Welcome to IBOATS.

You don't indicate if the replacement motor is one from say a donor boat, a crate engine, etc.
It is NOT recommended to add fwc to an engine that has been used in salt water for more than a few months as you will be worse off in the long run. There have been some threads about this in IBOATS if you search.

So assuming you will be starting with a new block, there are engines with a1g2 drives that come stock with fwc so you should be fine with that.

you could add a sea water pump just to help things along . . . You might want to see if the Alpha pump does the trick, then only consider a separate sea water pump, if needed.

I am curious if you have a conversion 'kit' of merely just the heat exchanger. If you only have the heat exchanger, I assume that you will have to engineer and furnish the rest of "the system". Also, you can decide if you want a "full" system or a "half" system.

Is your heat exchanger set up for engine only (aka half sys) or engine and exhaust manifolds (aka full sys). Makes a big difference.

CORRECTION: It's an Alpha 1 Gen 1 leg - NOT a gen 2
