I have a 1976 Sears and roebuck boat the deck is soft and starting to crack in which means stringers, transome are probly soft to. I have some wood working experience. My step dads a contractor and has done some fiber glass work . We have tools and I have some understanding of what needs to be done. Is restoring it possible?Cost estimate? Any tips?

As long as the hull isn't severely cracked and the gelcoat is at least decent, it can be saved pretty easily. As a cost, $1,500 is a number often tossed around when it comes to the hull repair ( stringers. transom, fiberglass ), That would be for a basic 16-18' Runabout/ Bowrider. You can likely have a nice boat for under $3k not including the motor depending on if it has one or not, and if it runs ect...

What kind of boat is it? Runabout, tiller steer fishing boat? Bowrider?

Restoring is possible.

Cost, several hundred dollars in materials.

Tip, read as many of the fiberglass restoration threads as you can. Both, the ones in progress and the completed restorations.

I agree with jigngrub. There may even be some restorations done on your model boat. Search the forums.
Good Luck!

Pics are always welcome here on the forum. It really helps us to see what you see and then give much better guidance on solutions to the issues. A free photobucket account is the best way to post your pics. Very hard to give estimates and tips without knowing what all needs to be done. We'll be here to help you all along the way, just get some pics up and fire away on specific issues.

A restoration is certainly do-able on that boat, and I'm guessing $1000 will get you close... depending on what you want to do to it.

... but! You'll have a like new boat for $1K and that's not even a good down payment on a brand new boat these days.
