Hey guys, Im having a problem with my twin 903 Cummins in my 1976 42' Hatteras. The starboard engine barely spits out any smoke where as the port smokes a lot. I replaced the turbo on the port motor and it didn't help. Could it be injectors?

Thanks for the help in advance.

black generally indicates an excess of fuel. could be one or multiple injectors have broken tips or the fuel pump is out of wack. i suggest talking to a diesel injection shop

Losing an injector tip will result in a much bigger problem than black smoke ;)

Does it smoke at all throttle/load positions? If thats the case and it seems to run ok I would look at injection timing, retarded timing will make smoke and high EGT, another symptom of this can be if the motor is a little quieter or different sounding than the other one. If you had a bad injector you would have a few other symptoms like missing or a knocking sound.

My boat is a gasser but my pulling rig is an 02' Cummins......all those replies sound spot on.
