I have a 2006 176 Optimax and am installing smartcraft gauges. Based on what I have so far read this seems like the right place to find my answer.
I am installing an ecomonitor, speedo and fuel gauge. I also have the fuel/oil/paddle harness. I am in the process of doing the install and so far I am getting info to the main gauge and it appears to work while idling in my driveway. I have yet to connect the fuel tank.
My question is how does the speedo get speed information. I have received three different answers from the merc support line. I have read numerous responses on various posts. One of the answers that I got from the merc help desk and the one I want is that the information is already in the engine and will be transferred to the smartcraft system without doing anything. I have also been told that I need to install a water pressure sensor and it will send the information. I have been told that I also need to install a paddle wheel and connect this to the cable I have. YIKES does someone know the proper answer am I asking too much??
If my engine already has the info it needs and is being sent then is a paddle wheel overkill?
Thanks in advance for any knowledgeable responses.
