Starter Brushes going bad?

I have a prestolite starter on my 50 hp 1972 motor. My connections are good and the battery has tested fine. I think that I need to replace the brushes on the starter because when I turn the key I hear the solenoid click and the starter does nothing until I tap it with hammer a few times.

Are there any suggestions on any other parts that I should look into replacing on it? Any suggestions on good pricing on parts for my starter?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Im sure brushes and a good cleaning/lubing will fix her up.

The contacts in the relay may be worn you might try tapping on the relay. At 40 years both parts may be suspect.

Tapping on the starter indicates brushes worn out; you can get good prices on brushes/repair kits right at iboats along with good delivery.
