hi folks i hope someone can help.. i have just bought a boat with a yamaha 80AET 2 stroke engine that was dead, i have had a quick look at the wiring and sorted at least 10 broken or loose connections... i have tried to start the motor but it has a difficult time trying to crank the engine round, with the plugs out it turns quite good but when the plugs are in it labours to turn over, i had to use my car running on it and it starts but the motor wont idle and stalls, sounds a bit gritty as well on initial crank and stalling... i have tried to find some info on this engine but not had much luck, i presume the c80tlrv is the equivalent for my model. i am going to check compression next few days, any help would be appreciated

Start by checking the battery/connections and work forward from there.

main lead from the battery to the engine was water logged, i replaced this and the engine turns great now but there is a knock from it sometimes when cranking and switching off,,,, sounds like a bit ring is in there. i will check it when the weather gets better here, too cold to work on..:joyous:
